GUEST INSTRUCTOR & GENERAL SCHEDULE

Our special guest instructor for this camp is the highly
skilled and talented, Sergey Makarenko. Born in the Soviet Union, Sergey has been practicing various martial arts since 1978. After many years of hard work he was awarded the title, Master of Sport, USSR in Sambo & Judo; and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Kodokan Judo. A mechanical engineer by trade; he moved to California in 1992 where he taught Judo and Combat Sambo. He has trained numerous state and national champions. He finished his competitive career winning the World Masters Judo Championship. He currently teaches Systema Russian Martial Art exclusively.

GENERAL TOPICS COVERED

Core Concepts

The core of Systema is outlined is four core concepts; Breathing, Body Alignment, Relaxation, and Continous Movement. These concepts are drilled in countless exercises and combat scenarios. Learning to operate efficiently while under physical and emotional duress is a key point in surviving a violent attack. It also helps tremendously in driving through busy traffic or or dealing with upset family member.

Training

There is no end to the training possibilities that we can work with. Including punching, kicking, ground grappling, knife work, shovels, whips, multiple opponents, guns, chains, extrasensory perception, and more!

Everyone is welcome to work at their own pace and intensity. If you need to take a break or get a drink, feel free to do so. But remember to challenge yourself -but not to the point of neglect.

Vital Communication

Good communication is important in any physical activity. However, it is vital when it comes to working with other people of different skill levels and abilities. This is especially important when working with knives, shovels, and other weapons. We have a sincere interest in helping you expand your skills and staying safe. Therefore, all participants must agree to freely communicate with their partners in order to maximize their learning and stay safe too!

TRAINING LOCATION & FACILITIES

Training Location

Enjoy the beautiful drive in the rolling hills of Petaluma. Drive out to a charming area known as Two Rock Valley and you will come to a working ranch that hosts a number of archery activities, Rancho Neblina. Rancho Neblina is just 20 minutes from downtown Petaluma for shopping, hotels, restaurants, and Highway 101. It is also about 40 minutes or so from famous Bodega Bay, award-winning wineries, shopping outlets, and the Sonoma County Airport. The campground area is capable of handling several hundred campers, RVs, and vehicles. So drive over in your land yacht or pitch a tent and throw out your sleeping bag.

Remember, this camp is about pushing yourself so don’t expect any hot water unless you’re bringing it with you. Part of the training will include Bucket showers and several outdoor bathrooms. The professional camp staff will serve all of the meals three times a day with a drink. Plan on bringing a daypack with snacks and a canteen to hold you over in between meals. A detailed packing list will provided after you sign up.

Driving Directions

Directions from US-101
Take Exit 474 E. Washington St.
Turn West onto E. Washington St. for 9.6 mi
(This road becomes Bodega Ave past Howard St.)
Turn left on Spring Hill Road for 1 mile.
Turn right onto Seavey Road for .8 miles.
Rancho Neblina is on the “corner” and is sometimes listed as Sartori Rd on some online maps. The camp entrance will be just before it.

What to Bring:

Plan on bringing your basic camping equipment, an unsharpened training knife, military shovel, good hiking shoes (not necessarily boots), hat & sunscreen, Poison Oak wipes just in case, sunglasses, appropriate clothing for training outside in the woods and hills. A detailed packing list will be provided after your sign up.
